Located in Northamptonshire, Designer Golf Limited was founded by Andrew Ash some thirteen years ago, at a time when there were very few independent clubmakers in the United Kingdom and even less in Europe.
Obtaining knowledge and training was even more difficult and resulted in many trips to the US, where independent clubmakers were by then well established and where the main specialist suppliers were based.
As the business developed with clients from all over the UK, along with many from mainland Europe, Ash visited China where the majority of heads were now being manufactured, along with a growing graphite shaft market and established an own brand head and shaft line.
Passionate about the technical side, particularly shaft technology and how little progress had been made with heads by comparison, he moved three years ago to new premises in Desborough, where it was possible to bring all elements of modern technology under one roof, with comprehensive workshop and fitting facilities and with all building, altering and repair work carried out on the premises.
Coupled with this he is building an enviable reputation as a putting coach, as he quite rightly believes that correct putter fitting and technique is far more important than the ability to hit long straight drives. The handicap is reduced by taking fewer shots per round, not by hitting the longest drive and that is done on and around the greens.
Equally happy working with absolute beginners through to established tour pro’s, everyone is encouraged and helped to enjoy this beautiful and at times, very frustrating game.
